UAW Handbook Offers Help
The Veterans Committee Handbook covers the whole
field.
It's designed to help local union veterans committees
in performing their duties. A benefit
summary indicates a veteran's period of eligiblity
for different benefits.
It includes information about the Agent Orange
Act and help for veterans of the Persian Gulf
Conflict as well.
The handbook includes a sample VA "Veteran's
application for compensation or pension," and it
provides information about many other veteran's
benefits: Medical, dental, dependents care,
home loans, education and training, reemployment
rights, life insurance, survivors' benefits and
death benefits.
Women vets will be pleased to see the section
on the Women Veterans'
Health Program that deals with issues of sexual
trauma suffered while on active military duty.
One of the most useful sections shows how to
create an effective union
veterans' committee. Veterans also can learn
how to
access their military records. This booklet is
packed with vital information.
Publication #495 is available for $1.30 cents
per
copy from the UAW Purchasing Dept., 8000 E. Jefferson,
Detroit, MI 48214.
