Here, you will find valuable information about
Vets Day Inc. and it's volunteers,
what we do, what we have done, and what we
are planning to do further, in assisting our veterans.
We believe in all of our brother and sister
Veterans, as some gave all, all gave some.
In them, we know our freedoms we enjoy and
take for granted are not free, but have
come at a great price in sacrifice.
The people who pay that price every day are our Vets.
Vets who are reminded every day of their sacrifice
are particularly those who reside in our Veterans Homes.
Vets Day is a group of
volunteers who serve our Veterans with an " attitude"
that we are on a mission. The overall
mission of Vets Day Inc. is to
provide the hospitalized
Veteran with the very things we take for granted.
For example, we enjoy getting out into
the fresh air, going for walks, and enjoying
the little things life has to offer. We are able
to stop and smell the roses. Vets in
wheel chairs rarely leave their room without an escort,
as they simply can't or find it very difficult
to do so. Vets who are emotionally disabled
do not often get outside of their rooms; the
hall of their hospital ward is their walkway unless
they have an escort to take them outside into
the fresh air. These are the "people", the
Veterans we try to assist through our efforts
and programs. In helping them, we learned
we have also inadvertently helped others along
the way. We have learned, for example,
that we have also peripherally assisted their
families and friends, along with members of their communities.
We assist by providing items for our
Vets to enjoy which are not always provided for
by the Government who fund our V.A. Homes.
For example, we assist by providing such
items as: replacing old television sets, stereo
systems for music and entertainment, snacks
and treats to support games and recreation.
Even though every Veteran's Home is different,
the needs of our Vets remain consistent.
We fund several special events which get Vets out
of their rooms, out of the hospital, and into
the fresh air, doing things they they love to do the most.
We assist them by enabling their families
to come visit them at the hospital, who otherwise
could not afford the trip. Some of our
funding is set aside to help family members, who
could not otherwise afford a trip to visit
their Veteran relative, by providing some funding to
offset their expenses. It is the Vet
we are supporting!
These are but a few examples as to what we
do. We do much MORE!
Every year, Vets Day organizes a gathering
of volunteers who put on one huge incredible
picnic at the Veterans Home in Union Grove,WI.
Supporters bring the Vets outside,
supervised by V.A. home staff. We feed
them, entertain them, and ceremonially recognize them.
We hand out awards, issue the V.A. Home donations,
and we gather as citizen Americans,
as fellow Veterans, and offer our hearts and
love for our country, particularly to our Vets.
They see for themselves that their sacrifices
have not been for naught. They see first hand
thattheir sacrifices are very appreciated.
And when we leave them, they have new clothes,
full bellies, new televisions, new funding,
and new support. We walk away with a list of necessities
which the hospital and Vets have provided
to us. And we walk away knowing that we shall return,
and we walk away tall and proud! Our
volunteers walk away further educated to the needs of
our Vets and return annually for more!
We do not simply talk about it. We do it! Vets Day Inc.
is an organization which mobilizes support,
engages action, and steers the course where it will have
the best benefit based upon research we obtain
from the Vets, the V.A. Home staff, and the community.
We simply do what we can to help out in the
finest way possible!
We have been told we have done well, and we
feel we have a great deal to be proud about.
Therefore, we want to grow.
We know we are on the right track, and we
want to see where this train of support will lead us.
We are a fast growing organization. Several
Veterans groups throughout the United States
are learning from our example, and many organizations
are requesting assistance in creating
their own Vets Day support mechanisms.
Members of our board have provided facilitation to
several Vets groups providing them with information
as to how we had achieved our success.
As a result, there have been other Vets Day
groups emerge. Illinois-Iowa-Minnesota now have a Vets Day
organization and other states are joining
in within their areas of responsibility. Each Vets Day
organization acts independently but
is connected by our being Americans, and by our desire
to help our Vets in need. Part of our
mission is to advance our success onto to as many Veterans
groups as possible. We are looking for
little or no credit, and we are not a political organization.
If we lobby for anything, it is simply to
provide information about the needs of our Vets as we
understand them based upon the research we
obtain from the V.A. Homes we support, our
Vets within them, our volunteers who have
experience dealing with Vets in need, and our own experiences.
We are remaining on track in our mission to
provide as much support to our Veterans as possible.
Our Vets are our primary concern.
